Like many school districts, Bamberg District One ended the 2019-2020 school year like no other with our schools closed due to a world-wide pandemic, our students learning from home, our teachers and staff doing everything possible to support students and parents in a home learning environment, our district in the midst of consolidation, our Superintendent for the last 20 years exiting, and a new Interim Superintendent entering.  To say we were wading in “uncertain waters” would certainly be an understatement! But, even with all of that, the district completed the year while maintaining its culture of cohesiveness, collaboration, and achievement; enduring the uncertainties with the grace, confidence, and determination for which this district is known!

While we were not able to celebrate the end of last school year in our traditional sense, we did experience and can celebrate some notable accomplishments and positive outcomes of 2019-2020.  Even with our schools closed, while working collaboratively with families, community partners, and each other, we successfully delivered meals to our students each week, we continued the provision of educational services, and we provided our community with some sense of stability in the most troubling of times.  We held a graduation ceremony comprised of 91 outstanding graduates, all of whom, we are so very proud! And, with this cohort of graduates, we saw our highest on-time graduation rate for disabled and non-disabled students and our lowest school drop-out rate to date.  Further, we are proud to say we accounted for 100% of our students during our schools’ closure, and we continue to monitor the health and well-being of our children and their families in and outside of school. Throughout last year and during the school closure, while working together with families, the community, and each other, we were able to build relationships and form new partnerships that continue to grow and strengthen.

Today, we can file the 2019-2020 school year away in our history books, and look ahead to the new, 2020-2021 school year. Rest assured, while the future may be uncertain, our purpose is not!   We can say with certainty that whatever the new school year brings, Bamberg School District One will continue to excel, and we will continue to instill in all of our students, our core district values: education and achievement; strength and endurance; integrity and compassion.

As your new Interim Superintendent, I am sending prayers and wishes to all for a happy, healthy, and successful 2020-2021 school year! And please know, while I am honored and proud to be your Interim Superintendent, I am also humbled beyond measure to be able to serve and represent all of you and this amazing school district!
